What Are Pulse-Jet Fabric Filters?

fabric filters

Southern Field-EEC offers a wide range of fabric filter systems. They’re designed to control particulate emissions in a variety of different applications like utility and industrial. Essentially, a particulate-laden gas stream passes through the filter bag. This way, the particulate is collected on the fabric’s surface. These high-efficiency collection devices are capable of collecting fine particulate from the gas stream—in fact, typical collection efficiencies of our fabric filter systems exceed 99.9%.

Pulse-Jet Fabric Filters

Our particular pulse-jet fabric filter system consists of individual fabric filter modules. Each  module contains up to 720 filter bags, each six inches in diameter and ranging in length from 10 to 28 feet.

How It Works

Gas flows from the outside to the inside of the bags, which are mounted on cages so they don’t collapse from the force of the gas. The dirty gas enters the patented Stepped Inlet Manifold and is distributed evenly among the modules. Gas enters each module through a vaned inlet elbow near the top of the hopper, where a patented Inlet Vane System evenly turns and distributes the gas flow upward, and deposits the dust on the bags’ exterior.
Clean gas then passes through the fabric and into the outlet manifold through air-operated poppet dampers. The fabric is cleaned regularly by a pulse of compressed air injected into each filter bag through a venturi nozzle. This pulse cleaning dislodges the dust that has collected on the outside of the bag, allowing it to fall into the hopper for disposal. Cleaning of the bags can be performed depending on customer preference, bag life issues, or emission performance requirements—either online or offline.
The results? Uniform distribution of gas and dust, and reduced mechanical pressure drop—the key to a long bag life.
